Biographical Information

Everything you never wanted to know about jSarek, and wouldn't have bothered asking about!

First, about my handle, "jSarek."  Many have asked where this handle comes from, and why there is a "j" stuck out in front of the name of a Vulcan from Star Trek. Sarek, father of Mr. Spock and esteemed Federation ambassador, is my favorite character from the various Trek properties. Originally, when I decided to take his name for my handle on the defunct Star Trek CCG Discussion Board (now the Star Trek CCG Gameplay Board), I added the "j" from my own first name to preemptively distinguish myself from anyone there already named "Sarek." Even after I found that no one had claimed the "j-less" version of the handle (at the time, anyway; one has since come and gone from the boards), I kept the "j" as a way to distinguish myself. I am not Sarek, the cooly logical, eminently diplomatic Vulcan; although I like him, I am not like him.

If you are trying to pronounce it, the "j" is NOT silent. It is an integral part of the name (and who has ever heard of a silent initial "j" anyway?), and so the name should be pronounced as "Jay-Sarek" or "Juh-Sarek." As if pronunciation of an online handle is so important in the first place.
